This mixer is just a mash-up of various ideas and concepts I’ve used in my other mixers. Remember, the whole idea is to have fun and meet new tangueros. And…as always, my mixers are “Equal Opportunity”–i.e., no matter your gender, ability or age you may do the asking when designated.
- Snowball–Starting with one couple, each time the music stops, dancers break apart and invite someone still seated to dance. (2-3 song tanda with music stopping a couple of times in the middle.)
- Speed tango–Free choice and at the end of each song dancers will break apart and invite the person nearest them on the floor to dance. (3-song tanda)
- Chooser must Follower–Anybody can invite a partner to dance (whether male or female) but the person inviting must follow. (2-song tanda)
- Waterfall–Leads form a line on one side of the room and follows on the other. A lead and follow meet at the head of the line and dance down the center. (3-4 song tanda)
- Same color eyes–Invite someone to dance who has the same color eyes that you do (2-song tanda)
- Speed tango–Free choice and at the end of each song dancers will break apart and invite the person nearest them on the floor to dance. (3-song tanda)
- Tango Roulette–Leads hold hands and form an inner circle facing outward. Follows hold hands and form an outer circle facing inward. When non-tango music starts, leads travel clockwise (to their right) and follows travel counter-clockwise (towards their right). When music stops, everyone dances one song with partner they are facing. (3 songs with a cortina between each.)
- Astrological Match–Find someone with the same astrological as you do (2-song tanda)
- Reverse Waterfall–Just show up! I’ll explain when you get there. (2-3 song tanda)
- Birthday snowball–Snowball will start with anyone who has a birthday that day or week. (2-3 song tanda with music stopping a couple of times in the middle.)
- Meet a stranger–Dance with someone you don’t know and have never danced with before (2-song tanda)
- Favorite Partner–Dance with your favorite partner (2-song tanda)
